Dayo Ogunyemi is a corporate-commercial and energy lawyer with over a decade of Canadian and international experience. He advises corporations, investors, governments, and public sector entities on complex transactions, project development, and regulatory matters across multiple sectors.
His practice spans commercial transactions, energy (oil and gas, power, renewables, and nuclear), natural resources, environmental law, ESG, Aboriginal law, construction and infrastructure, and technology-driven transactions. He has advised on major energy and natural resources projects, combining deep industry knowledge with strong transactional and regulatory expertise.
Dayo provides strategic legal counsel on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and commercial agreements across a range of industries, including oil and gas and emerging clean energy technologies such as hydrogen, carbon capture, and small modular reactors. His experience also includes equity participation and commercial arrangements involving First Nations, as well as advising across the full lifecycle of major projects.

Dayo previously practiced at Bennett Jones LLP, one of Canada’s leading national law firms, where he worked on high-value transactions and major energy and infrastructure projects, including multibillion-dollar acquisitions and complex commercial arrangements. He also served in-house as Legal Counsel at the Alberta Energy Regulator, advising on project approvals, regulatory compliance, enforcement, and hearings. Earlier in his career, he practiced law in Lagos for several years at leading law firms, advising on oil and gas, power, and infrastructure transactions, including cross-border mandates and project financings.
Dayo was the John Ballem QC Fellow in Energy Law at the Canadian Institute of Resources Law (CIRL) and has contributed meaningfully to scholarship in energy and environmental law. His academic background and work reflect a sustained engagement with energy, energy transition, environmental law, resource development, and emerging technologies.

He served as President of Global Lawyers of Canada and as a director of the Internationally Trained Lawyers’ Network, Canada. He is also a co-founder and director of the African Scholars Initiative, a Canadian charitable organization that provides mentorship to bright scholars of African descent.
Outside of law, Dayo is a talented musician, proficient in 17 musical instruments, including the piano, guitar, saxophone, and drums.
